Audio Systems: car stereo no power, fuse one, nissan altima

Question
Hi, I recently got a used nissan altima 2001 but the stereo has no power at all, no clock. Nothing shows on the little screen. I pressed all the buttons but nothing happens. we checked the fuse but they're good what do you suggest I do? I'd like to try and do it here with my husband rather than going to get it repaired and pay lots of $$$ if it were something simple. Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
May,

ok no problem , go back to your fuse block and recheck the fuses .. pull out each and every fuse one at a time and check all of the fuses not just the radio related ones, replace as needed .. now if that doesnt work open up your owners manual and read to find out if the unit has a theft deteriant feature on the radio if so try to deactivate it, also try giving Nissans customer service line a call to ask them about any features you need to know about that might have caused this , the number is toll free and they are always glad to help out.. ok after this is still nothing, use a test light *3.00 at wal-mart or equal store* and probe for power on the back of the units wire harness check once with the key off and once with it on .. if you dont get any power you need to take it to a shop you have some bigger problems somewhere .. but if you do atleast get one i would say the unit is trash, more than likly one somebody stuck in to trade it the vehicle off or it could have been the victim of a battery swap out or improper boost, either way the best solution since you dont want to have a shop install and you really shouldnt the install is very simple, look around and find you a new aftermarket unit that fits your budget and sound needs , radio shack , circuit city are some good local places, but the internet can save you more money i recommend www.etronics.com , after you have your unit picked out you will need a dash install kit and a wire harness adapter both you should pick up at radio shack ask the salesperson to find the right ones for you .. they are around 8-12 each .. after you have everything the harness adapter will wire into your new units harness color for color and then simply plug back into your factory plug, besure to make good splices and use wirenuts/electric tape to secure each splice.. the dash install kit will help mount your new unit into your dash along with give you specific instructions for the removal of your old unit and the install of your new one .. i hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
