Audio Systems: Dodge Dakota Factory stereo, security indicators, dodge dealer

Question
I called Dodge to get my security code, and after looking up my VIN # they said that i don't have that option on my stereo, so that isn't the problem.  If you have any other ideas i would appriciate it.

My headunit just went dead except for two flashing lights on the bass and treble knobs.  Do you have any idea what this might be?  My warenty has expired and i'm afraid dodge will charge me alot for something that I could do myself.  I have a 2001 dodge dakota.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.  Thank you

Christina,
The lights may be the security indicators. If your car's battery went dead and you had it charged or replaced, this may have set the radio into the anti-theft mode. contact your local dodge dealer and ask what exactly the lights are used for. also have you looked at your owners manual for info about the lights and to enter the anti-theft codes for your stereo?

Answer
Christina,
The problem may with the power feeds to your stereo. The stereo in this vehicle has two power feeds, (1)-12 volt hot for station memory. (2)-12 volt switched from the ignition. If you measure the 12 volt feeds and they are both OK, then something in the stereo is at fault. I find on many of these stereo's defective solder connections on the processor area on the main circuit board that will make the stereo inoperable.
