Chevrolet Repair: 2005 Impala overheating, coolant levels, 2005 chevy impala

Question
I have a 2005 Chevy Impala with 111000 miles. It recently started to overheat. It does it at random. I have looked at the coolant levels an they appear to be normal. When it overheated the first time the collant level was normal and when i took the radiator cap off i did not get any liquid that came out. I have replaced the thermostat and the censor. It was fine for 2 days after that and then overheated again. When the car is off the dash will read that it continues to be hot like half way and it will not go all the way down to being cold. Both fans are kicking in. Do you have any other suggestions. The first time that I looked at the radiator it was about 10 degrees outside and it showed no signs of overheating besides the gauge. The fluid in the radiator seemed to be thick a maybe a little clumpy.

Answer
Hey,

If the cooling system is contaminatd with engine oil it is most likely an intake gasket leak.  The gaskets leak and oil intrudes to the coolant adn contaminates the thermostat and plugs up the radiator.  You should check regulating temperature with a digital laser thermometer at the outlet housing to make sure its actually overheating and not a gauge problem.
