Audio Systems: Poor AM reception in my Nissan Quest - 2004, nissan quest 2004, antenna connection

My Nissan Quest has poor AM recepton. It catches only two stations while my Toyota catches numerous stations. When I scan for AM, it may catch one station. The station will fade out, then when I hit a bump, it comes back on. Another bump cuts it out. This occurs mostly at the low end of the dial, but since only one high end station (1560)comes in, I can't say this is 100% true. FM seems fine. A friend says it is poor ground or poor antenna connection. The dealer replaced the radio - no help.

If hitting a bump causes the AM reception to come and go, I would say that the antenna is possibly faulty. The ground on the fender at the antenna has to be clean and tight or it will sometimes cause the AM to go in and out. Try cleaning and then tightening the antenna ground nut at the antenna to see if this helps.
