Audio Systems: Factory Infinity in 97 Dodge Caravan, sony cd player, dodge caravan

Question
Ok I installed a newer Sony CD player in my 97/ Dodge Caravan.  Now I have install before so when I saw the one wire marked AMP I assumed it was for the remote amp wire that come out of the Sony deck.  Just like most aftermarket installations.   The only problem is that, this one wire coming out of the dash is putting out about 5 volts.  How do I get the Sony deck to run the Infintiy factory installed Amp.  Also the 6x9s have 6 wires going to what looks like mining amps built on the speakers.  Not sure what they are.  I just don't want to have to replace all my speakers.  The sony deck does power the 2 speakers in the dash and 2 tweeters in the back hatch door.  The 6x9s and door speakers do not have power unless the amp can be turned on.

Answer
Jayson,

ok when you install aftermarket head units into vehicles that have factory amplified systems you run into alot of problems.. the best bet you can get is track down a wire schematic for the amp so you can mend it to work with the sony deck try www.streetdreams.com/wires first they have a good selection of diagrams but i'm not sure if they have any offered for amp'd systems you might have to do some searching, stop by your local auto parts spot and skim through a haynes repair manual for your model van *the stereo diagrams are in the back* check to see if it covers amp'd systems , also give dodge's customer service line a call they have a whole database full of information... now if for some reason you cannot figure out the wiring for the amp but you have the information for the speaker wiring..bypass the factory amp and run all new wires, to the stock speakers... now when i do an install over a factory amp system i never use anything stock , i swap speakers , and amps everything depending on howmuch they have to spend, this makes a good base for your sound system, so i recommend if at all possible to bypass everything and swap out the speakers that are set up for the amp'd system with quality aftermarkets, but like i said it all comes down to how you want to do it.. i hope i have helped you out some if there is anything else you need let me know

thanks
