Audio Systems: stereo integrated amplifier, watts music, 4 ohms

Hi! Kevin,I have stero amplifier w/ surround sound ,Technics Model SUG_75, my question is ,the Two ,rear speaker does not working,4 ohms, input 75 watts, music 35 watts,front speaker is two 8 ohms, 50 watts, and center speaker is 8 ohms 100 watts input,50 watts music,this model i can test it w/test bottom, i can hear buzz sound from front and center, but rear does not work at all.Pease any advice and idea about this ,i appreciated, Waiting Thanks

This is a very old receiver. It could be that the 4-ohm load is taxing the surrounds--the receiver only puts out 25 wpc to the surrounds, but the receiver should compensate for that. I suggest trying a pair of 8-ohm speakers (borrow some from a friend). If that doesn't work, the surrounds are malfunctioning, and you need to have it serviced by a professional.

However, before you do that, consider that the repair cost will likely be greater than the value of the unit. You might look into simply purchasing a new receiver. Both Sony and Panasonic make very good models for $200US, which retail actually for less.
