Audio Systems: Radio Static in 91 Chrysler Lebaron, chrysler lebaron, antenna booster

Question
My radio has developed static in AM or Fm mode with popping and cracking motor running or not. Volume control does not effect this noise and it is intermitant. I have changed out radio and speakers with no changes in results. Antenna has continuity if this means anything in this application. Seams worse on cold and or rainy days. Any suggestions would be appreciated.                    Thanks. Ed

Answer
ED,

well there are a few things you can try but i can almost say the problem is in the wiring if you have already tried swapping head units and speakers .. but we will start with the cheapest first which is a distortion block usually around 10 bucks from radio shack wire this is and it should *if there are no problems in the wiring* stop the interferrence also try an antenna booster around the same 10-20 price range in most cases .. now if none of these work out you really need to get to a install shop and have them do some testing and troubleshooting to see if it needs a complete rewire or if its just a trouble with one or a few wires .. now you can do a complete rewire yourself and save money , you basically bypass every wire on the factory stereo harness except the 12volt ignition/turn on and this is just for ease of the process .. hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
