Audio Systems: cassette stuck in tape player, ford escort zx2, ford escort zx2 99

Recently I inserted my cassette in my tape player.  It's a Ford Escort ZX2 '99.  The player made strange whirring noises and the cassette jammed.  It won't rewind and it won't fast forward and it certainly won't eject; the machine seems to think there is no cassette inside.  (Which is why I am able to switch stations.  Even the display reads: NO TAPE)  My finger doesn't quite fit inside the insert area, but I'm afraid to damage the stereo more.  Any tips?  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

 tough spot that you are in .. you might end up taking it to a shop to have them remove it , but try a wire clothes hanger bend the end so you can try to catch something on the tape and pull out .. this is a 50/50 chance of working the best way and the way to ensure nothing will get broken or damaged is call around to some stereo shops or small electronic repairs shops .. they can either try to get it out in the car or take it out and open it up to remove the tape .. hope this helps you out sorry i cant do anything more .. if you need anything else let me know
