Audio Systems: dual voice coil speaker replacement, dual voice coil, monsoon system

Question
I have a 1998 Trans Am with the Monsoon stereo system.  I would like to replace the speakers by the back seats.  I have some speakers I would like to use, but they are not dual voice coil speakers so it sounds shotty when I connect them.  I think I need to bypass the factory amplifier to get good sound out of these speakers?  Any clues on how I might go about doing this?  If I do this, will I need another amp, input converter, and wiring kit?  If so, I'm pretty sure I can't handle that install.  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Brandi,

bad idea to bypass the monsoon amp, you have 500 watts of power going to all speakers, the speakers arent DVC they are just wired to the amplifer ( stock amps use totally differnt setups ) .. i have a 2001 Z28 with the same system i have never swaped the speakers but did add 10'in bass cannon and 800 watt amp to the stock system.. the only way you can add the speakers is like you said bypass the amp , but for one set of speakers its not worth it , if you were planning on a complete setup including all new speakers , new head unit , and amplifier .. then thats ok do a simple rip and reinstall but you will have to run all new wires to your speakers from either your new head unit or your amp... now if your monsoon system has the steering wheel controls like mine you are lookin at 90 bucks for an adapter harness that will allow and aftermarket head unit to work with the controls.. so its a large bite to take off when you dig into a monsoon system.. so have plenty of time and money to burn... if you are still interested in doing a complete swap let me know and i will lay down a basic guide for you ... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
