Hi Tom,
My husband removed the cd player from the car yesterday. Up until this point I was listening to the radio or cd player with only the back speakers on (afraid if I had the front ones on that when the radio went bizerk it would blow my ear drums.) This morning I was listening to the radio without the cd player in and with only the back speakers on and had no problem. On my way home this afternoon, there was no problem. I turned off the radio to answer a child's question to me and then turned back on the radio and there was no volume at all! I turned it back on and off a few times and nothing.

Could it be that the ebay radio that we bought has the same problem with the one we already had in the car? What a coincidence.

Thanks,
Cathy

Hi, The model number is 16213825.  There is a remote factory cd but no steering wheels controls.  There is also no seperate amplifier.
Thank you,
Cathy

Hi Mr Clark,
I have been having a problem with my Delco car stereo. The volume would turn up full volume on its own, then go down, then back up. There would be days that it would work fine then other days it would go bizerk. The volume is enough to burst an eardrum. I also noticed when it finally did work on some days, if I turned off the ignition then turn it back on the radio volume would go full volume up then back down then up again.

So, My husband thought it was the volume control. We bought the same type of radio from ebay and it is doing the same.

Do you know what might be causing this. It doesn't seem it is the radio?

Thank you,

Cathy

Hello Cathy,
Please give me the complete model number/s off the radio. I can look over the service manual for clues. Also does this sound system have a seperate CD or tape player? and does this vehicle have steering wheel controls for the stereo?

Cathy,
Unplug the CD player to see if this may be causing the processor in the radio unit to make to volume go up. It sounds like something is effecting the electronic volume control circuit. I have found on several of simular delco radios lately that defective capacitors on the circuit boards can cause the volume problem as well as other problems.

Answer
Cathy,
It may be a coincidence that the radio that you purchased off Ebay had the problem as the original stereo in your vehicle. I looked over my repair records for similar models of delco stereos and in two reports I found that I had to replace the electronic volume IC due to volume changing by itself.
