Audio Systems: JBL Subwoofer parts, jbl pb10, powerboard

Question
Hi there,

My dad has a JBL PB10 (model number) subwoofer that needs a new powerboard, or amplifier (the part name varies wherever I check!). I can't locate this online...probably because I don't know what to search for or where to look. If you don't know the part personally, do you have any recommendations of websites that I could look on that would sell it? Or any suggestions as to how I could locate this part? Thanks so much.

Answer
Dear Anna,

Go to jbl.com. Click on "Home Audio". Click on "Product Support". Choose "PB10" from the product menu and click on "Submit". You'll see that the only part they offer online is the driver. However, if you email <parts@harman.com> and describe to them the part you want, my guess (I didn't try this--that's up to you) is that they'll tell you how to go about getting the correct part.

Another, simpler way is to take the unit into an authorized JBL service center and have them replace the part. Installing a replacement amp in a subwoofer is not a task for an untrained amateur. Unless you've done this before, I suggest having a pro do it.

Which leads me to another question: how did you determine that you had an amplifier failure in the first place? Did you have the unit diagnosed by a qualified repair technician? If not, I highly recommend it. Sometimes the problem is less onerous than the best uneducated guess makes it. Just a suggestion.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
