Audio Systems: no power on certain deck, panasonic cq, jeep cherokee

Question
Hi there, I have a Panasonic CQ-DP383U cd player that has been in my 1989 Mazda 323 for the past year. Now I would like to swap it into my 1991 Jeep Cherokee but am having some problems. When the deck is installed in my Jeep, it doesn't look like it's getting any power- the wires are all good, I've tested them and they also work with the original Jeep tape deck. I've also retested the Panasonic in the Mazda and it worked fine when I put it back there. I've tried installing it into the Jeep with and without using a wiring harness adaptor and have gotten the same result. At the same time, the clock has stopped working- I don't know if these two things are related. As near as I can tell, all the fuses are fine. Can you give me any idea what might help?

Thanks very much,
Tyler McKinnon

Answer
Hello tyler,
Double check that the two power feeds have 12 volts on them. Red wire hot with key on, yellow wire hot at all times for station memory ( on the panasonic). If you are using the harness adapter for the jeep, the adapter should have the wires marked for what they are used for. look for the two power feeds and test them for 12 volts on them with the key to on.You can test the power lines with a simple test lamp made by soldering two wires on a 12 volt lamp such as a stop or tail lamp bulb.
