Audio Systems: Installing a turntable, sony home theater, pioneer turntable

Question
I have a Sony Home Theater. I bought a Pioneer turntable at a yard sale in excellent condition. How do I hook it up to my receiver? It has a red, white, and a small ground wire.

Answer
Dear Larry,

If your receiver has a PHONO input, simply connect the red RCA lead from the turntable to the red input and the white lead to the white input, and connect the ground wire to the grounding screw, also on the rear panel.

If your receiver does not have a PHONO input, you need to connect a phono preamplifier into one of the line level inputs on your receiver and connect the turntable and the ground wire to the phono preamplifier.

Turntables do not work with line level (CD, TUNER, AUX) inputs. You can find phono preamplifiers at www.audioadvisor.com.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
