Audio Systems: ohms on subs and amps, impedance ohms, ohm speakers

Question
im confused about the whole ohm thing i am not sure what they are how to match them with subs and amps, i would like to know what the whole ohm process is and how to match amps with speakers, also the quality of sound when going from 2 ohms to 4 ohms your time and intelligence is greatly appreciated thank you

Answer
Hello Brian,
If your amp calls for using 8ohm speakers, thats what you need to use or you can burn up the amp. You should never place 2ohm or 4ohm speakers across a 8ohm amp. As for 2 verses 4ohm amp and speakers.  (basically)2ohm speakers with 2ohm amps will provide more sound power due to the amount of AC current flowing through the speaker coils compared to a 4ohm or 8ohm amp with the same audio output voltage applied. On basic terms by using OHMS law with a 10 volt audio voltage going to the speakers, the 2 ohm speakers will have double the current going through them as compared to a 4ohm speaker and therefore a little more sound power. This is why most very high powered sound systems use the 2ohm speakers with 2ohm amps. If you are installing a sub woofer box in your car, you can place in the box two 4ohm speakers in parallel to give you a impedance of 2ohms! remember, you can use as many speakers as you want as long as you maintain the required impedance (ohms)of the amp.
