Question -
My car stereo just died, Nothing lights up, nothing works. I have checked all of the fuses and the problem is with the stereo (Jensen CD).
I know that these are "throw away" units but I am handy with a soldering iron, IS there anything that I can check out on the stereo myself?
Thanks

Hello Steve,
Car stereos have 2 power sources,  1-hot at all times and 2-12 volt switched with the key. use a volt meter or a test lamp to check these lines for 12 volts. Also on some stereos they have a fuse installed next to the power jack on the rear. Please give me the model number of the stereo.

Answer
Steve,
I checked all my Jensen service manuals and I don't have a service manual for your model. I can suggest that you check the two power sources at the connector, plugged into the radio. You may also want to check the solder connections at the connector pins that are soldered to the circuit board. If these check ok, then you should use a volt meter to check for 5 volts at the on/off push button. If you don't have 5 volts there, you will need to locate the 5 volt regulator circuit and check it out.
