Nissan Repair: nissan sunny fuel system, diesel fuel treatment, diesel fuel system

Question
how to get the air out of a 1996 nissan sunny van (diesel) fuel system.

Answer
Malcolm,

I assume you had the system open for changing the fuel filter or the line to the pump or injectors.  Well,  If you do not have a vent on the filter itself then loosen the fitting at the fuel rail and turn it over until the air is released and diesel comes out.  Have someone with a fire extinguisher standing by.  Probably will not need it since diesel does not catch easily.  But, just in case.  Then tighten the line fitting and usea rag to clean up the excess and you should be good.  Now, if you are saying it will not start and you assume there is air in the line you might think about cleaning the fuel pressure regulator as they tend to gum up when the season changes.  ANother thought on this subject is to put some diesel fuel treatment in the tank to get everything back into solution.  Always use good grade diesel and if you do not drive it all the time I would really start it a couple of times a week.  Diesel vehicles do not like to sit.
