Audio Systems: volvo 850 - new radio, yellow violet, wire colors

hello there i am in the process of installing my mp3/cd head unit and have hit a problem i.e i can not locate the main 12v+ cable which would normally be attached via the ignition , i have found the permant live which operates the internal memory but no live can i come directly of the battery via a in-line fuse(as so not to blow the head so to spaek) and turn the unit off manually rather than via the ignition?

I looked over the service manual and here are the wire colors to look for, Hot at all times=red/black striped wires switched with the key=yellow violet striped. To test you should have a 12 tester lamp assembly.

Hello Paul,
If you have a test lamp or a volt meter you should be able to locate the switched wire from the ignition. I will look over my car manuals to see if I have a wiring diagram for your car and let you know exactly what color wire to look for.
