Audio Systems: Melted fuse, radio clock, loose ground

Question
I have a 1992 Eagle talon. the fuse that my dome light and radio/clock is on had been failing (thus causing my clock to reset) so i changed the fuse. i made sure i was using the correct amperage fuse (10)
the old fuse looked like it had a buildup on one side (on the inside) and my dad said it looked melted. now the new fuse is failing again. i just had my sparkplugs and wires replaced recently so i dont want to think its the wiring. do you know what is wrong?

Answer
Becci,

sounds like a short somewhere maybe a loose ground .. pull out the unit and check the harness make sure its securly plugged into the unit and there is no damage to the wires .. also make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight .. and is the radio a factory unit or aftermarket .. some units need a fuse swap when they are upgraded from stock .. at this i would try putting a 20 amp in for the radio/dome fuse and see if that cures the problem .. if you still have the problem get a test light and probe the harness for a ground make sure that the ground doesnt loose contact when the harness is wiggled around.. hope this helps you out if you need anything else or i missed something just let meknow

thanks
