Audio Systems: Car radio cutting out, craig walker, saab 9000

Question
I have a 1994 Saab 9000 with radio/ cassette, seperate CD, and amp under the seat. The problems began during the winter of 2002/3 but stopped in the spring, only to return this winter. The problem is that the system often does not work until the car has been driven 10 - 15 miles. The LCD display is faint during this time and the tape can be run but not heard; the CD doesn't appear to run. Last spring I had an engineer look at it - he couldn't find anything wrong and upon reinstalling the radio it worked fine. When the problem recurred this winter another engineer checked out the radio unit and couldn't find a fault; again when he reinstalled it it worked fine - for a week!
Can you give me any advise on how to pin point the source of the problem?

Thanks,
Craig Walker

Answer
Craig,

well i have the same problem sometimes on VERY cold days in winter with aftermarket unit .. extreme cold can cause things to have trouble starting up until the car/interior gets warmed up .. but your case unless you live where it stays EXTREME cold it sounds like the unit just maybe a little week or your battery might be weak .. first thing i would stop by auto parts store have them run a battery and charging system test * free of charge* to check your battery and alternator you might need a replacement .. if everything checks out with no weak cells .. the best recommendation is to live with the units cold nature until something more serious goes wrong .. or if it really bothers you swap it out with aftermarket or even buy a new factory unit whichever you preferr but the aftermarker would be more cost efficient.. hope this helps youout if you need anything else or i missed something let me know

thanks
