Audio Systems: No sound..., fuse block, blown fuse

Question
I had my car stereo go out on me when the car door severed one of the speaker wires. I replaced the blown fuse, visually checked the harness and there is power getting to the unit. My problem is I have no sound.  I repaired the wiring that was broken but is there more?  I know I had some smoke at the time the speaker wire broke. Could it be the speakers or something wrong with the unit?

Answer
Nadine,

smoke is a very bad sign .. i want to say its the head unit but i really want to be sure so if you can pull your head unit out give a quick inspection of the harness and all the wiring .. and check the fuse block but not just the stereo fuses pull each and every fuse out one at a time and check them all .. after you have the checks done with .. and still nothing .. leave your stereo out .. and pull a speaker out unplug or cut the wire with enough room to splice back and splice in another speaker even a house speaker will work to test .. if you get nothing go to your head unit *if its aftermarket unwire a speaker wire and wire in the test speaker to see if you get sound if you do then redo the wiring to all the speakers if you dont you need to replace the unit* .. if you have a factory unit unless you have a wire diagram dont clip any wires but if you do know a set of speaker wires clip and leave enough space to wire back and wire in your test speaker and go with the above instructions replace if no sound .. run new wires if there is .. hope this helps you out but i think its a fuse problem so hopefull it will be an easy fix if you need anything else let me know

thanks
