I have a simple sound system that consist of a kenwood head unit, a pair of 6 1/2 mids and 6x9's, a rockford 600 watt amp, and also a single audiobahn a1205 1000watt sub in a ported box.  I didn't think that the amp is strong enough to push the sub to its max output but I would like to get your opinion on this.  The main problem that I'm having is that when I turn up the volume on my system and the bass starts to hit, the amplifier would cut off for about a minute then kick back on.  But if I leave the volume low it works just fine.  I would like to get a bigger amp but This is all I have for now and it sounds pretty good for its size.  Can you tell me why it cuts off.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like your amp is going into thermal protection mode or clipping. The RF amp should be enough power for the sub. Are you using just the amp on the sub, or all the speakers?

Thanks for your help.  Can you explain what you mean by thermal protection mode or clipping and what is causing that problem.  The amp is only pushing the sub.

Answer
thermal protection would mean the amp gets too hot and shuts off to cool down to keep from frying.
Clipping is when your trying to puhs the amp beyond its capable limits.
is the audiobahn a1205 a single voice coil or dual?
what is the ohm of each voice coil?
How do you have it wired to the map?
