Audio Systems: Static noise from stereo, generous return policy, trojan horse attack

Question
I bought a Brookstone Slim Profile CD System (sku # 334607) and a Brookstone Universal Subwoofer (sku # 385591) a few days ago. Overall it sounds great, but occasionally it gives off an annoying loud static noise. The speakers are built into the unit and I checked to see if the subwoofer cables were connected correctly. The noise comes when I play the CD, but when I switch it to radio it continues to make the noise. The noise has come out when the subwoofer is on and off. It's actually made the noise when the power is just on (no cd playing and no radio). The noise comes out when the player is at low volume (it doesn't seem to be a high volume issue). I appretiate any help you can provide me with this.

Answer
Dear Casey,

First, let me apologize for having taken so long to respond to your question. I've been having e-mail blocking issues with my broadband firewall. For some reason--that I obviously don't get yet--when I am subject to a Trojan horse attack, the firewall blocks my e-mail even after I've gone through the security schtick. Technology. Go figure.

The loud static means that there is something wrong with the wiring and/or circuitry in amplifier's output section. This is a manufacturing defect. Return the unit. I know Brookstone offer a generous return policy for defective products. I think you'll find that the replacement will do just fine.

Good hunting. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

And, again, sorry for the delay.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
