Audio Systems: Building a new system in an old truck, jensen speakers, watts rms

Question
Dear Tom,
I am rebuilding a '65 gmc truck and need some help with some component selection and also some mounting questions.  The components I have are as follows:

Profile 6.5 inch 2-way (pair)
Max input - 120 watts
Nom input - 5-40 watts RMS
Impedence - 4 ohms
Magnet wt. 12oz

Radio Shack - 5 1/4 (pair)
Max - 40 watt
Nom - 20 watt
Imp - 8 ohms
Mag wt. 10oz

Jensen 6x9 (pair with boxes)
60 watt continuous
140 watt peak

I'm not looking for a competition grade system, just a good sounding system that you can hear at 60mph with the windows down.  Are all of these pretty good components?  Should I throw any of them away?  I plan on putting the 6x9s under the seat but I'm still not sure where to put the others.  Do they need to be in an enclosed space like the door panel or can I just mount them under the dash?  Do I need and amp? an equalizer?  What do you reccomend for a tuner/CD player?
thanks
joe
P.S. Any of these questions answered will be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Joe,
Pioneer and Kenwood are pretty good units for the price. I like JVC units, the EL Kameleon units are great looking units that are remote control and can hook up to an optional CD changer unit. Both of these stereos have 4 X 50 watt outputs on them and they will drive the Radio Shack and the Jensen speakers ok, However you will need an amplifier with at least 100 watts to drive the Profiles. For the best sound you should, if possible mount two speakers in the doors so they are facing you. You may also want to shop around for a stereo with a built in EQ so you can adjust for the best sound in your truck. In addition you could shop around for a stereo that has low level outputs only (RCA JACKS) and then hook them into an EQ and then connect the output of the EQ into a 4 channel amp with 1 sub woofer output for extra bass.
