Audio Systems: Car CD player, car cd player, spindle motor

Question
Hi Tom:
Thanks for your reply.  Yesterday I used compressed air to try and clean the cd player, and when that didn't work, I went to Walmart and bought a cd lens cleaning disc, and that didn't work either.  When you put the cd in, it shows "Track 1" and then shows an "E" message and ejects the cd.  Any further suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

I am having a problem with the factory CD player in my Mitsubishi car.  It has recently been ejecting the cd immediatly after I slide it into the player, without playing it.

I read somewhere that if you use a cd lens cleaning cd, that it might get stuck because this cd player is the kind where the cd slides in. Is this a possibility?

Are there other alternatives?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Lindsay,
I use the CD cleaners all the time for quick cleaning and not once did I have one get jammed inside the CD assembly. Your CD player may have several problems that will cause the CD to be ejected right away, here are the two most common. 1,the full in switch is faulty. 2,the laser unit is dirty or faulty. You may want to try removing the unit and opening up the case and using a Qtip moistened with rubbing alcohol to clean any dirt off the lense. Answer
Hello Lindsay,
One of the problems with a very dirty lense in a CD unit is that if the detector doesn't get a good signal to start with the spindle motor won't receive a signal to start spinning. This process is called Focus Search, This basically looks for a good focused reflection from the disc and when the detector in the pick up unit gets a strong enough signal the spindle motor will start to spin. If the spindle motor doesn't start spinning after the focus search you will see the error message and in most cases the CD will automatically eject. You may want to try doing a good manual cleaning as I mentioned previously by using A Qtip and rubbing alcohol.
