Audi Repair: 2002 Audi A6 stops without warning, mass air flow meter, mass air flow

Question
My daughter has been having a problem with her car.  As she is driving the car will die without warning. She suggest that the problem happens when she is turning  The car will restart but runs very bad and she can drive it ten feet or so before it dies. The mechanic indicated this could be a limp home mode but I believe it runs too poorly to run at the low travel speed. The car has been to the shop four times.  The computer code indicates a problem with the mass air flow meter and a low signal.  Once the code is cleared the car starts and runs beautifully.  The first time the maf was changed.  The second time they figured the new one was faulty and they replaced it.  The third time the connectors on the wiring were changed out.  The fourth time the wiring was replaced and we were told they installed a relay in an attempt to address the low signal. Not believing this would be a solution I purchased a code reader so my daugther could at the least clear the code if it happened again. After the fifth incident I called to see what the shop thought, they were unsure and I believe they hope to avoid seeing the car again. It appears to be happening more frequently and for the sake of safety I need to figure this out.  Do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Greg

Answer
I would look for a fuel blockage, or possibly an airlock, it may be that there is something in the fuel tank which blocks the pickup.  Has the fuel filter been changed?  If it is the signal from the MAF, then it is worth cleaning all the terminals, also checking the wires all the way back to the computer to make sure that the connetions are tight.  It's worth Ohming them out to ensure connector integrity.  Let me know what you find,  Jan
