Audi Repair: Lock vs Alarm, door checks, fuse box

2001 Audi A4 1.8T - Bought it recently, so I'm still getting used to it. The electric buttons on the key still arm and disarm the alarm (as the red lights in the door will begin flashing continuously) and aural note sounds when you hit the lock button. Conversely, when you hit the unlock button, the lights flash. The problem is that the doors or the trunk will not lock or unlock. Also, on the driver's door, the lock/unlock button does not actuate any of the locks. The fuse box on the driver's door checks out. This is a new development, started one morning, after parking in the garage. Car has no damage history, and no other electrical problems that I know of. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

One push of the unlock button on the remote should unlock only the drivers door.  Two quick pushes should unlock all the other doors and the trunk.  The button in the driver's door should unlock all the locks, does it presently work on any lock/door?  If not then it may simply be that this button is bad.  Let me know what you find,  Jan
