Audi Repair: 1997 A6 sunroof potentiometer, control dial, potentiometer

I'm trying to get the potentiometer out of a busted ceiling bezel and installed
into the new one, but cannot for the life of me get the control dial off the shaft
that goes to the interior housing. I don't want to break the potentiometer by
prying too hard, but see no other method of getting it off. Any ideas? Tricks?

If there are no small holes in the control knob, then it is possible that it has a locking tab that needs to be pushed in with a small screwdriver.  But I should imagine this just pulls off.  It will be quite tight since it should not typically fall off, but I do not believe any epoxy was used to secure the control.  Don't pry, just pull on the control.  If you have a look at the parts diagram at the dealer, the fastening mechanism (if any) is normall shown.  Good luck,  Jan
