Audi Repair: 2002 TT 225 Weird Display indicator, audi radio, valet parking

Question
I just purchased an Audi TT (2002) with the 225hp 1.8 ltr. When driving home, I finally had a chance to play with it. I have no owners manual. I have what looks to be an upside down lightbulb or right side up christmas bulb with an X over it coming up in orangish yellow on the display. The rest of the time it says SAFE both in the display and the sterio. I did not have the key fob, but I am using the valet key. Also, when I use the winsheild fluid, it squirts out up  by the passengers headlight and stinks dramatically.

Answer
You bought a 2002 car without a manual?  What was the seller's reason for not having the manual?  Or a key?  Did the seller work at a valet parking place?  What about service history?  This has a smell to it, which is not related to the smell from your screenwash...  Anyway, the upside down bulb means that the electrical system is noticing an insufficient current draw on one of the light circuits, so check if there is a bulb out.  If not, check that the bulb connections are all good and that the power rating of the bulbs are correct.  The safe indication means the stereo is locked safe, and a code needs entering to enable it to function.  The radio manual explains how, or you can google Audi radio and there are some helpful sites to explain the procedure.  I would go back to the seller and find out the history.  Did you pay cash?  Get the VIN checked and check with local authorities if the car has been cloned or stolen.  Good luck,  Jan
