Audi Repair: Audi A8 smoke left side near light when swithched off, airsuspension, audi a8

My Audi A8 was turned off and clicking sound was heard like generator near the offside passenger headlights, 10 minutes later smoke appeared with burning smell and managed to turn on the head lamp water jet spray and smoke went.  This morning the adaptive airsuspension light has come on permanently.  Can you explain what could have happened? has something burntm out or something more severe!! thanks in advance for any help

Sounds like the secondary air pump has malfunctioned, I  have not worked on many of these systems so unfortunately I do not have a quick checklist for you.  But it is fairly safe to assume that smoke, and a burning smell, are not likely to have made things better under there.  Youcan have a look if you can get to the pump, but if not I's take it to an import specialist.  let me know what you find,  Jan
