Audi Repair: Central and side Air vents, pipe elbow, analog type

Question
Hi, I have a 1996 2.5 diesel A6 estate.  The Climate control air con blows cold from all vents except from the front cluster and sides.  I've removed the glove compartment and pipe elbow and can see the levers move and the internal drum rotate to blow the air to the feet and then to the screen.  But i cannot get the air blowing to the front!  Car was serviced recently, pollen filter etc. changed, would this effect anything?  Even when trying to heat the car, nothing comes from the front,Can you help? Regards, Simon.

Answer
Hi Simon,

Does your vehicle have the electronic type of climate control or is the older analog type i.e. does it have knobs that you turn to choose the position or is it the button type.

If it is the older knob type then I'd check the cables for sticking and jamming, and also check that the links are attached.

If it is the electronic type then Id suspect a faulty actuator motor or fault in the wiring to the motor or even a faulty control panel. the control panel is inbuilt into the climate control interface.

if your system is the electronic type then it would be easier to have a diagnosis done(using a programme like VAGCOM) as this would save you a lot of time and money replacing un-neccessary parts that will have to be changed just to eliminate them as the fault.

Also note that to remove the climate control panel you will have to remove the radio and will need access to the audi radio release tool/puller before you can remove the climate control panel.

As for your other question, No, I doubt that pollen filter change caused the fault as it is no where near the flap actuator motors.
