Audi Repair: 2001 Audi Allroad skids uphill in reverse, 2001 audi allroad, tire choice

Question
Hi there, I am pretty much clueless about cars so do appreciate your advice. When I reverse uphill, the tires don't seem to probably make contact with the road and skid. I hear a funny kind of rubbing noise/skipping between the road and the tires and of course finally when I get up, there are short skid marks on the road. What could be the possible reasons? I do know that the treads are starting to look like they need replacement, but it must be something else, no?

Answer
Well the car has four wheel drive, but there are still differentials in the drivetrain to allow the car to go around corners.  The key is to put the power on very gradually, and try and make the car move slowly and smoothly.  Every time you have to stop and get going again, the chance of a tire losing traction is greater.  If the surface is slippery, your tire choice may also play a role.  Check and make sure the tire pressure is correct.  Let me know what you find,  Jan
