Audi Repair: A4 Alarm fault, ampmeter, milliamperes

Question
QUESTION: hi,
Audi A4 2001 alarm has suddenly started to go off intermitenally..The car is not dead-locked and does not reset when you press the remote fob key. Totally baffled and need educated advice please!

ANSWER: It sounds like something is draining the battery, that is typically what causes this.  You can find out if it is a battery drain by checking the drain using a ampmeter.  The maximum current draw with everything off should be around 50 milliAmperes.  Let me know if you're unsure how to measure that.  Jan

QUESTION: Hello.
I've tried what you suggested and the battery is okay. The alarm will not reset with the fob key unless you open the boot of the car.

Answer
Did you check the battery or the drain current?  Even if the battery is OK, a small current flowing can set the alarm off.  if there any event associated with the alarm going off, like rain, motorcycle going by, anything noticeable?  Is the glove box light off, any other contacts which may be causing the problem?  Does the interior light work when every door is opened?  let me know,  Jan
