Audi Repair: engine light reset, wild goose chase, other vehicles

Can I reset this myself? I can in two other vehicles I own just by following a simple procedure i.e. "hold this button while pressing this one"

No.  Sorry you will need either a VAG-COM or a portable VAG compatible OBDII unit to read out the fault codes and to erase them.  I would advise that engine codes are there for a reason, and personally I hate it when somebody has re-set codes before fixing the problem, as it is usually the first code which is the most important, which can cause secondary codes to appear after the important one is erased leading to a wild-goose chase...  If you want to try a re-set, at least make a note of all the codes to help fix possible issues later.  Let me know,  Jan
