Audi Repair: audi a6 starting problem, service intervals, audi a6

Question
QUESTION: I just bought Audi a6 1998 but it seems to have a starting problem. It takes about 30-40 seconds( when it's cold) and it starts but I am concerned that one day it wont start anymore. I just changed a fuel pump because mechanic told us it was leaking but the problem is still there. What should I do? Thanks

ANSWER: Hi there,

I need more information, is it a petrol or a diesel??
whats the current mileage of the vehicle?? does it turn over properly or is it sluggish??

its not uncommon for people to ignore the service intervals when they know they are selling the vehicle, so Id start there.

Check the filters conditions, especially the fuel and Air filters.

Also check the plugs.

send me more information so i can further help you.

QUESTION: It's petrol, it has 114,000 miles. When I turn the key it takes little time and it makes sound like its trying to start but it doesn't start right away. After couple of seconds it starts.
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Start with the plugs, check the condition and replace if in doubt, also check the colour of the tips, black indicates its burning too rich which would indicate excess fuel while white would indicate it is running lean which woud indicate too little fuel. the ideal colour should be dark or light grey.

Also any chance of getting a diagnosis done?
