Audi Repair: 20004 a6 2.7t, buick gn, intercooler pipes

Question
smelled oil burning after running car, found valve cover leaking on passenger side, dealer changed gaskets, also noticed oil dripping down from both tubes which come down from each of the intercoolers, i undid clamps and pulled off rubber hose connecting to intercooler.found oil inside of hoses one on each intercooler. dealer said this may be normal, but oil would drip out if hose was pulled down,i think seals are gone in turbos, what do you think,i have a turbo on my 86 buick gn no oil in hoses at all. does not smoke when running, runs good let me know thanks

Answer
A 'little' amount of oil in the intercooler pipes is considered normal, however if the oil is dripping out this I would consider it a problem.  However if the turbo's work well, and there is no smoke, this will not hurt your engine, so run with it until something major needs doing.  If it ain't bust, don't fix it...  It will be expensive enough when it does need fixing!  Cheers,  Jan
