Audi Repair: trunk will not lock - 2003 Audi A6, 2003 audi a6, audi a6

Question
QUESTION: I cannot get my trunk to lock.  It closes but the locking mechanism does not engage with or without the key.  This problem started a day or so after I had my battery replaced by the dearler.

ANSWER: I do not think this problem can be linked to a battery replacement.  Does the lock activate with the central locking?  Is the trunk lock in the right position?  This is described in your user manual.  Let me know if you do not have a manual.  Jan

QUESTION: Can someone advise me on how to get my trunk to shut and lock.  I can close it but it does not lock and on the display inside the car it shows that the trunk is not closed.  Is there a way to reset the locking mechanism so it will catch?

Answer
So this means the trunk doesn't shut or latch.  Locking means the button does not activate the latch, but your trunk doesn't latch; the button may still activate it.  Did you press the release button with the trunk open (this sometimes releases a stuck latch)  Can you see if the latch is in the correct position to close, and is the area around the receiving part in the trunk clear?
