Audi Repair: Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, 8t, speedometer

I have a 2001 A4 .8T Quattro and the speedometer sticks on occasion (example, i can being doing 55mph in 3rd gear and come to a stop light and the car will be stopped but the odometer will stay at 30mph) I can turn the car off then turn it back on and it will reset itself. i first noticed when the car said i was going 125mph in 2nd gear thats when i realized something was not right!!! Thanks for any help you can give me!!!!

Hi Jay,  Thanks for your question.  The speedometer on all of these cars are electronic, so it sounds like the actual gauge in the cluster is malfunctioning.  The pulses are sent from the final drive, and these pulses cannot be generated without movement, so the gauge itself is suspect.  I would replace it first and see if the problem goes away.  I'm fairly certain it will.  Thanks and let me know,  Jan
