Audi Repair: no illumination on radion or climate control cluster on my 2001 audi a6 avant, audi a6 avant quattro, station keys

QUESTION: i own a 2001 Audi A6 Avant Quattro, im having a problem diagnosing the cause of the no illumination on my radio, climate control and power window buttons. I have checked and pulled every fuse and all the fuses are fine. To better eplain the problem, for example on the radio, all the red led displays work. I can see what radio station I have on with no problem, but for instance the pre set station keys 1-6 are suppose to illuminate in white so i can see while drivng at night and i cant. The climate control,  i can see the red l.e.d. temp i set the heat to but cant see the white light that would show me where to increase or decrease the blow motor fan or what mode to set it in. all the grounding points under the floor mats are intact and no problems there. Im at a lost as what to do. any advice would be great. thanks

ANSWER: I think all of these lights are attached to the dimmer switch on the illumniation.  Are your instrument lights working OK?  normally there are a few wires that attach to the dimmer switch, maybe one of those broke off.  Sometimes these are looped through the radio, don't know a typical cause of this but I would start looking for a broken wire, or a loose connection on the back of the instrument cluster.  The useful thing to note is that the color code on the wires going to those lights should all be the same, so that may make your task easier.  Do you have a wiring diagram?  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: all of my lights on the nstrument cluster work fine and I have no problem dimming the light either. i do not have a wiring diagram. Do you know how I can go about getting my hands on one? thanks

I think you are looking for a grey/blue wire.  There is a connection in the instrument wiring harness.   Are there any other lights that are out?  How about the heater vent illuminations?  The wiring diagrams are available on CD or in book form.  do a search for Bentley manuals.  Let me know,  Jan
