Audi Repair: 2000 audi a4 1.8t lack of power and start problems, clutch pedal, starter relay

Question
Hi, wonder if you have any advice. my a4 suddenly died one morning this week. it started fine in the morning, i dropped of my son at school and when i tried to start it it would not turn over. battery seems fine. self diagnose test comes up ok. starts if i push start it. also seems like it is lacking power and idling seems like it's hunting (not stable) any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer
If this is a tiptronic, it could be the neutral/starter relay or the ignition switch.  Since you push-started it it is probably a manual, there is a relay here in the US which is activated by the clutch pedal, don't know if you have one of those.  However I don't believe this could affect the actual running of the engine, so the lack of power is probably another issue.  I would check the starter itself, and for the running issues I would probably get the diagnostic codes read out of the engine computer.  Let me know,  Jan
