Classic/Antique Car Repair: 65 plymouth fury power windows, white lithium grease, plymouth fury

Question
I just got this car after it had been sitting for 2 years. The windows worked then. Now,passenger side front works, back goes down only a little. Driver side does not work, but when button is pushed, dome light dims.I would appreciate any help you could give me.

Answer
This is a very common problem with cars that have been left sitting for a while.

Since you see the dome light dim when you try the button, you know that the motor is drawing current- that means that the switch and the motor are both good, and that the window itself it not moving because it is stuck in the channel.   The way to fix this is to take the door panel off and lubricate the window channels and the gear teeth, and the slides that the various parts move in as the window goes up and down.  The right stuff to use on these parts is white lithium grease (Sold in the auto parts stores as "brake grease") because it won't melt and run in hot weather.  Lube the heck out of everything you can see that has to move, then help the window by pushing or pulling on the glass, either up or down depending on which way you are pushing the button, until you get it to move a little bit- then lube the parts some more - just keep it up until the window works like new.  I've had to do that on just about every car I've ever pulled out of storage that has power windows, and the reward is that they will work like new once you get them freed up.

While you're in there, lube the lock and door opener parts too - you'll be rewarded with much better operating doors and locks.
