Audi Repair: 2000 audi a6 quattro, cold air intakes, audi a6 quattro

Question
QUESTION: Hey Jan, I have a 2000 audi a6 quattro, my rear driver side door says that its open in my dash although its not, do you know what the problem is?  And also can you recommend a high performance air intake filter, I can't seem to find one that fits my car.

ANSWER: The rear door has a sensor in it, which will also trigger the interior light.  Does the interior light work properly?  The switch may just need cleaning.  I would check out the K&N air filters for better air flow.  CHeers,  Jan

QUESTION: Which interior light, all interior lights work, how can i clean the sensor, what does it look like, do i have to disassemble anything, and cold air intakes in mind, i have a k & n.

ANSWER: In the rear door shut you should see a button just underneath the striker plate typically, that has a rubber cover over it.  If you lift the rubber up on the flat section, you will see a philips screw holding the whole thing in place.  If you undo the philips screw the whole switch can be pulled out; check the integrity of the switch, and the wires going to it.

QUESTION: HI, I have another question, I replaced my turn signal directional switch it was expensive to do the job, now its failing again, when I signal left it works but when I signal right it does not work, do you think its a relay?

Answer
No this is not likely to be a relay.  The flasher unit controls bot sides so if one side works, it is likely to be a bad ground or still the switch.  Did you buy the whole unit or just 1/2, where they meet in the center around the steering column the copper connections often fail, if these are tightened up (bend them a little together witha  screwdriver) normally the switch works OK again.  You can check if this is the problem by twisting/moving the signal stick a little when testing the operation of the turn signals
