Audi Repair: audi allroad 2001 tiptronic, audi allroad quattro, transmission control unit

Question
Dear expert, I have Audi Allroad Quattro 2001 equipped with tiptronic. When I try to manually select gears- nothing happens. The transmission still works in D mode and display shows D. It does not react on changing to manual regime. The automatic regimes: D,3,4 work very smooth. Please advice. Thank you.

Answer
Hi,  This sounds like a transmission control unit malfunction.  I would get transmission codes read out and see what the codes say.  These control units can be axpensive, but they are available used.  The used ones will be less expensive, but typically have a shorter warranty period.  Let me know what the codes say, you can get those read out at most good import shops, autozone, or the dealer.  The dealer normally charges to get the codes read out.  Jan
