Audi Repair: 2003 Audi A4 cabriolet rear window is separating from top., audi a4, expert repair

Question
My 2003 Audi A4 cabriolet rear window is separating from top. Dealership said
only way to fix is to replace entire top quoted at 5k. This seems a bit extreme.
Shouldn’t the top last longer? Have you heard of others with this issue? Seeking
advice on how to fix.

Answer
I had the same problem with a 1997 cabrio.  The most difficult aspect of this job is that in order to repair it, the top has to be removed from the frame.  This is most of the work.  It is definitely worth shopping around, but this is an 'expert' repair and difficult to attempt by yourself.  Depending on the condition of the top, choose whether to replace or repair.  I would say that to remove, repair and re-fit, the cost should be around $2k not $5k...  Check your local yellow pages or the Internet listings for convertible top repair shops.
