Audi Repair: How to repair an Audi A4 2004 Multitronic, chrome ring, audi a4

The black plastic that covers the hole in the shift canal detached from one side. In this side of the cover is a little metal contact. Now my shift display doesn’t work because of this and also I can’t use the manual mode. I want to know how I can resolve this problem. Can I reattach this cover or I have to buy another? How do I take a apart the knob and disassembly the parts to have access to this part.

You may have to replace it.  I was never able to fix it.
You can just get the shifter shade which comes with both magnets.
The plastic around the shifter comes up. Shifter - when you look at it ,you can see knob with the button and chrome ring under. chrome ring comes down ( 2-3 mm) when you have to pull out button (hold it) and pull the whole knob up.Whatch you face, I hit myself many times. Try to hold the button , because if you let it go , it will get inside the knob and than it's very hard to pull it back.
Once the knob is off you will see 4 arms that hold  shifter P R N D cover, pry then out and lift the cover. Shifter shade it's right under.
