Audi Repair: air conditioning/volkswagon, evaporator, expansion valve

   I was going to pull the evaporator from the dash but somehow I reconsidered how wrong the repair shop was on everything else. So I took it to Volkswagon for diagnosis.
   They say the compressor is shot and they need to replace the Compressor, the Expansion Valve and recharge. They say there is no way of checking the evaporator without replacing the compressor. Is this accurate ? What are the4 chances that the evaporator is solid.

well, just like they said. Ther is no way to check evaporator if the system do not work. Compressor is the one that makes freon move . If that is not working nothing else is not gonna work. If there is freon in the system and a/c compressor is not going on .. .. I will replace comp. first.
