Audi Repair: climate control Audi A4, vent system, climate control

I have a 2000 Audi A4 w/ a 2.8. No mater what I try when the system is running all air flow is thru the defroster vents only. I know that on most cars that is the default mode when there is a system malfuntion. Any sugestions ? The car also has a problem with the message center display. It appeares that many of the LED's are not working so it is impossible to read. Is there ahy relationship between the two ? Thank you for your help. Ed

There is no connection beetwen the two item , cluster display go bad , I have seen it a lot on 99 and 00 models.
I'm out from the shop till friday, so I can't check any info on vent system. But if you have electronic control there has to be a fault in it. I will check this first before dooing anything.
