Auto Airbag System Repair: Toyota corolla 2003 SRS indicator remains on, nissan infinity, clock spring

Question
Hi Doug, The SRS indicator remains on and the mechanic found BO103 scan code. He said the clock spring needs to be replaced. I looked in the toyota diagnostic manual and there's no mention of a clock spring for DTC BO103. I found in another forum that clock spring problem code is B1801. Dealer wanted $2200 to fix and the mechanic says $550. Who is right? Appreciate your help. Thanks.

Answer
Hello Sirisha
The code you listed form the mechanic is not one I recognize for your vehicle.  Your specific vehicle also uses flash codes, so to determine the problem, you do not need a scan tool.

Here's a site (our company site) that will explain everything you need to know about airbag systems, airbag lights and resetting the system.  It shows you the location of the components and the procedure for diagnosing and/or resetting airbag light.  Not all vehicles need everything replaced.

Airbagsolutions.com also has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong!
Some vehicle manufacturers let you access and reset systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool.
Although it’s a pay site ($14.95/day), it’s a lot cheaper than going to the dealer

Here's the page in this site that tells you which cars need a scan tool and which ones can be done without
I hope I’ve helped you
