Auto Electronics: ignition switch, vehicle specifics, vehicles age

truck starts ok and key/lock returns to run position but dies unless I hold the key right up against the start position. A little 'play' in the run position.  Can I adjust something or do I need a new switch.  Tried some electronic cleaner in key hole but no help---Jim

To me this sounds like a problem we see a lot in older vehicles.  Without vehicle specifics i would not be able to tell you if this is due to your vehicles age and normal wear on the switch, however, as a general rule of thumb, if there is play in the ignition switch, or if the vehicle will not remain running without manual assistance on the key switch, the switch should be replaced.
