Auto Electronics: ford anti theft system, ford mustang, scan tool

Question
hi, i have a 2000 ford mustang that shut off going down the road the other day, and the theft light started blinking rapidly and will not start back up but it does turn over. before doing any research i tried simple things on the side of the road(pulling fuses, cycling key, disconnecting battery) and so on but now im almost sure its the pats system that is malfunctioning. i also hooked my scan tool up on the car and it read computer locked out.  i dont have the money to take it to the dealer and i need to be back at school at my collage on Tuesday (200 miles) so im trying to find a quick fix to get me by. my buddy has a 2000 explorer thats wrecked and we pulled the pats receiver out of it and it looks the same as the one on my mustang, so i was going to try and hook it in on the mustang and tape the key to it, then pull the chip out of my key and use it to turn the ignition over. but im not sure if this will mess anything up or even work. so i was wanting to know how the system operated and if you think this is a good idea.

thanks

Answer
Brandon, If you are desperate to get it going, give it a try. The transceiver does not need to be programmed so this might just work. I believe you have already figured out the basics of how the system works. In the event that the transceiver does not get your Mustang back on the road, as you suggested it will need to be looked over by someone with a factory scan tool. Good Luck. Don.
