Hyundai Repair: 2001 Accent GL transmission fluid change, transmission fluid change, hyundai accent

Question
I'm planning to do the transmission fluid change on my 2001 Hyundai Accent GL. It's good idea to do my self or this car has any problem with it that I need to know before ? Is recommended to change the filter too ? Any tip or advice with this job ? I'm planing to buy the fluid in the dealer.

Answer
This is a simple enough job for the do-it-yourselfer.

To replace the fluid, remove the two 17mm drain plug bolts.  One is in the oil pan and one is in the differential.  Reinstall after draining and add fluid through the dipstick tube.

The owner's manual doesn't recommend changing the filter along with the fluid.  If you'd like to do this anyway, you'll also need a filter and pan gasket.  You'll need to remove the (13 if my memory is correct) 10mm bolts holding the transmission pan in place and then the 4 10mm bolts holding the filter in place.  You'll also need a scraper to remove the old gasket from the pan and transmission.
